PROJECT UPDATE as of May 28, 2010: The fundraising goal was met on April 6! VWAM's Executive Director, Chairman of the Board Bob Peragallo, and Board of Advisor member Tim Schwulst's visited the clinic on April 23. Renovation and new construction continues slightly ahead of schedule toward the project's official completion date of July 30, 2010. It was reported earlier that groundbreaking took place on March 19 in a traditional Vietnamese ceremony that began at 5.30 a.m., considered a good hour and day in the Lunar calendar in this culture. Dr. Huynh Bai Tan, Director of the Center For Reproductive Health, the Assistant Director Dr. Quang Van Ngo, and the contractor symbolically placed the cornerstone that same morning. Since then demolition and clearance work has been finished, and renovation as well as new construction was approximately two-thirds completed as of May 27. See the photos below to view the renovation.

PURPOSE: Renovation of existing structure to provide greater access and enhanced health-care for women, especially those in pregnancy, and their babies/children.

OUTCOME: Opportunity to address pregnancy health issues including abortion in Da Nang City and Da Nang Province. Also will impact outreach efforts to Quang Nam Province.

CONSTRUCTION SCHEDULE: Construction and renovations began April 1, 2010 and are slightly ahead of scheduled to be completed no later than July 30, 2010.

NARRATIVE: VWAM’s Executive Director and several Board members made an on-site inspection of the proposed project in October, 2009, and three VWAM officials made a second on-site visit on April 23, 2010. In addition, a special meeting was held on April 23 to explore options available to address the abortion issue. Participants in that meeting were Clinic officials, representatives of Life International, and Vets With A Mission.
