Hello,
I just wanted to tell you guys that I think what you are doing is great. I am currently a history graduate student at the University of Southern Mississippi. Every summer, my University takes a study abroad course to Vietnam to study the war and Vietnamese culture. I recently returned from my first trip to the country and I completely fell in love with it. Well anyway, I just wanted to say I think what you are doing is amazing, and I wanted to say thank you for helping all those wonderful people there. Keep up the good work!

As a combat vet who has borne the brunt of our nations actions in Vietnam, bearing freedoms sword, and felt the embarrassment and scorn heaped upon the warriors from that conflict, I salute you for helping to tell the stories of so long ago, that we will never forget. For it is a fact that history does repeat itself, so it is important to learn what the warriors learned, for indeed, it is warriors who have seen first hand the evil and devastation of hatred, who know the values of peace, compassion and harmony among men. A Vietnamese legend says, ?All poets are full of silver threads that rise inside them as the moon grows large." So, when I write, it is because these silver threads are words, that are poking at me, and I must let them out. I invite those who pass here to visit my "Vietnam Picture Tour, from the lens and poet?s pen of a combat infantryman, from one who's walked the walk, and can talk the talk...Take a walk in "the park" with the 1st Air Cavalry on combat patrol, that in reality will give you the sweet and sour taste of "the Nam" on your tongue, leave the pungent smell of "the Nam" acrid in your nostrils, and embed textures of "the Nam" in your brain as though you walked beside me in combat.

I'm signing the guest book again. I can't help it. Last time I had only perused the history portion. This time I read a lot of the comments in the quest book. TO ALL VIETNAM VETS: Yes, I was just a kid during the war, but I GRIEVED, and I STILL GRIEVE, over the way you were treated. I cried then, and I still do. I also prayed for all of you - fervently - and I still do. Our country asked you to do a difficult thing. And you did, with honor and bravery. For those of you still hurting, and it sounds as if there's a good amount of you, I am sorry you were treated so badly. Forgive them and forgive yourselves, War IS Hell, on everyone, Please know that there are a lot of us, who still hurt for you all. God Bless You! and Thank You for your faithful service to our country! May you know Peace and Joy and Hope once more!

I Spent eight years in the Marine Corps and was privilege to have Roger Helle speak at one of my Marine Corps Balls. After the ceremonies , I had the great honor of meeting Roger and receiving a signed copy of his book ," Pointman". As a young marine I read his book with great enthusiasm and enjoyed the war story and great esprit de corps , however at thirty years old now and the youth director of my local church, I have re-read this book and have found it a totally different book. I have researched Roger and found that he is working with a great organization that I am affiliated with , and that being Teen Challenge, . Reading his story and understanding Gods great ability to heal the wound , not only of the body , but also the wounds of the heart gives teen-agers , who think that their problems are greater than anyone else , a great hope and courage to turn their problems over to God and trust him to take care of them.
Roger, God bless you and your family and I would love to get the opportunity to let my youth here you speak . If you are doing any public speaking please let me know and I will do what I can to get them to you .....Thanks for sharing your story of love and Gods great forgiveness...Rusty Pitts

i have learned more about war in these past couple of hours than I have in my lifetime. I have been enlightened, moved, hurt, and left to ponder the signifigence of the very fiber of war. The words shared here are so powerful that one can relate so much of this to the battles we all face in relation to everyday individual battles. We as a society have to learn to do the right thing in life, and to choice that which would provide for the greatest good. Life, love, change sacrifice, and lies are as old as time, and who is to say when we will ever learn to embrace the right for all individuals to have what they need, and be willing to share in the riches of our planet, where love rules, and peace prevails. I wonder if indeed we are capable of ever really walking away from the attration of war. I salute the writers that have shared from there soul, all that was lived, seen, and survived. Hell, does come in all shapes and sizes, and there is surely a hell for history has repeatly demonstrated this with the atrocities of war. Let us hope and pray that as surely as there is war, that this means that there too is a heaven!
