Hello all,

My name is Brenda and I am writing to you because I am fascinated with the Vietnam War. Not because of the obvious atrocities, but rather I am intrigued by the political web that many, many young men were caught up in. I have some memories of the Vietnam war (they are vague memories as I was only 5 years old at the height of the war) but there is one thing that has always struck me...and that is the attitude of the public when these men returned home from battle.

I can remember walking across a bridge in Melbourne with my father (who was a military man) and witnessing a lot of potestors and hippies on motorbikes. In my child's mind at the time, I thought to myself...but they were told to go by the prime minister.

I can't understand why they were shunned by so many people. I am nearly 40 and it still bothers me. When I was a child, I watched the 1972 olympics and vietnam footage and then I watched the 1976 olympics after the war was over and it was not until I was older that I could talk about it. A lot of people didn't seem to give a sh*t, but deep down, I always wondered why?

I have much respect for a vietnam war soldier and I believe there will never be another war like vietnam. Thank God!

Cheers

Brenda

As a Marine from Texas I served proudly in Vietnam in 65, 66 and 67. I was and am still treated as a murderer by my family and the general public, however I have not allowed this to destroy me. I am horrified at times by the lies told about us and the way we are depicted in movies. We were there for the independence of these wonderful people and could have allowed them to be free if we were allowed to do our jobs. I hope someday the truth about Vietnam and those who fought there will be truthfully told in the theatre, on TV and in our schools. Sempe Fi and God Bless America.

God be with all of us for we know nothing of what we do other than what we are shown and told. Thank you for giving me a glimpse of your lives. You are all fine Marines, Soldiers, Airmen and Corpmen. From the bottom of my heart I wish I could have sacrificed my life for all those who were lost in flesh and spirit, I'm sorry I couldn't do that ... I truly am.
