Radio Operator 121st Signal Battalion, 1st Infantry Division 3/67 to 4/68: Di An, Lai Khe, Phu Loi. Fifty-six years ago today I was pulled from the field to return to Lai Khe to get my gear and catch a chopper to Di An headquarters to out-process and begin my journey home. Arrived at Travis Air Base about midnight 4/4 with less than 90-days so began my separation from the Army that afternoon. Had no problems leaving Travis but getting home to Pittsburgh was tough as there were many riots due to Martin Luther Kingโ€™s being killed. I made it home and have been very fortunate in my 77 years but not a day goes by without some thoughts of the friends and systemic trauma of Viet Nam and of those not so fortunate.
