I served in Vietnam Jan. 1970- Aug. 1970. My MOS was 1341- Heavy Equipment Mechanic, but upon my arrival in RVN, I was sent to Battalion Guard/ Service Co. 7th Engineer Bn. 3rd Marines instead of Zulu Maint. We were located a few clicks from Three Corners, and the steam bathes. The night I arrived in my compound supply was closed, and I wasn't issued a weapon and gear until the next day, unfortunately we had a mortar attack that night. I remember being more frightened than I have ever been, sitting in a bunker unarmed and hearing above the sound of the mortars hitting someone in the dark bunker say "OH GOD, THEY'RE WALKING THEM IN."
