I can't explain it, but this morning I have been preoccupied with my time in Vietnam. I arrived in Danang in June '69 at the age of 18. I thought about my 2nd night in country at Camp Tien Sha and the attack on a freighter in the habor. I remembered the time when the ammo dump was attacked and the sounds and smoke that lingered. I thought about the rocket attack one night on the inside of Marble Mountain, and how the dirt rained on my bunker. That was over 36 years ago,and yet it was just yesterday. I remembered the "Dear John" audio tape from my fiance, and the hurt I felt and carried for 22 years. After alot of alcohol for alot of years, I looked her up in NC in '91, went to see her and brought closure to that aspect of my experience. Today I will honor my Nam years, and put it away tomorrow. To my Nam brothers, thanks for letting me write this today.
