I served in Da Nang from 1968-1970.I was with the H&Sco.III Marine Divison. That divison was ran by a Maj.Fish and the suppley offer name was Cap.Montana,I think.I served as a Sgt.of the Guard at the main gate. And I went from that camp to Red Beach and back to my camp .As Sgt. of the guard. The name of the camp that I was with was Camp Hron,I think anyway.I only can remember some of the good days and some of the bad days. One good day was when we at that camp shot and killed a Water Bufflo and we had a BBQ.cook out of it.Boy was it ever good. Some of the other camps stoped by and enjoyed it with us."And one of the bad days was when a C-46 Schunk Chopper went down, right in front of my camp.I think that 26 personal was on her as she went down and burned up on the ground. No one came out of that chopper on that day.I took some pictures as she went down, and then I gave that film to my officer,so maybe some one could see just what happend to her,To see just why it went down.On the pictures that they enlarged was a time of 1:45 P.M.The day was 1-30-1970. They gave me some of the pictures that I took of that chopper as she went down and burned up,I have the pitures yet today."God Bless all of the men on that chopper that day.""I well never forget that day"If any one can remember that day that the chopper went down,Please e-mail me at [email protected] Or you can phone me at 517-566-2051 if you need to talk to me about that day."God Bless all that served in Viet Nam. Thank you Mr. Phillip Rhoades.
