I served as an Ensign/Lieutenant (jg) in NMCB-11 (Seabee battalion) who was assigned to III MAF. I served as Assistant Opns Officer in Danang (1966), short pass through in Dong Ha after leaving Chiang Kham, Thailand as OIC of Seabee Team 1109 (1967), Thailand, and as Assistant D Company Cmdr and then Special Roadwork Officer in A Co. in Quang Tri (1968), Vietnam. I designed the III MAF R&R Center at China Beach, Danang East, Vietnam during the summer of 1966. Our battalion constructed the infrastructure including the 480-man amphitheater, living quarters, library, chapel, showers, etc. A nice place. Please check out our MCB-11 Association WebSite. Type MCB-11 in google block and enter the site. Lists our members and gives a brief history of the 11th Naval Construction Battalion of WW II fame (1942-1945) and Naval Mobile Construction Battalion ELEVEN from 1953-1969. It includes our tours in Vietnam from 1965 through December 1969 when the battalion was decommissioned. Our battalion will be recommissioned in Gulfport, MS, on 14 Sept 2007. Hope to see you there. We build; we fight. We are the "Can Do" Seabees! Oooraaah! Bruce B. Geibel, Capt. CEC, USN, Retired.
