I arrived in Pleiku, Vietnam on Thanksgiving Day, Nov, 1967, assigned to the 510th Engr Co. (MDS) of the 62nd Maint Bn. (DS), 45th Gen Supt Gp, 1st Logistical Command. This company provided High echelon maintence to heavy equipment assigned to construction,infantry and support units in the Pleiku area from Qui Nhon to Kon Tum,Vietnam. I was assigned as a laison mechanic to Hq Co, 70th Engrs, 937th Gp, 18th Engr Cmnd, shortly after the beginning of the Jan 1968 Vietnamese New Year Tet Offensive. With this assignment, I worked with personell from the 4th Inf Div Land Clearing Dozer Plt, 299th Engr Bn, (Pleiku and Kontum), 630th Engr Co (Const), 815th Engrs, Hq and Line Companies of the 70th Engrs. I lived with Hq co mechanics during the 8 mos. I was promoted to Sgt E-5, thru the 62nd Maint Bn promotion Bd in June 68. I was sent on convoys to Kontum in Mar 68 to provide maint support to B Co-299th Engrs and to the 4th Inf Div to work and put on heavy parts on the D-7E dozers to make them "Rome Plows". I went back to the States in late Dec 1968 (to Ft Leonard Wood, Mo) after going on R&R to Taipei, Taiwan. I am presently retired, after serving 22 years in the US Army. 12 years was in the Ohio National Guard Lima Oh)- 837th Engr Co and 7 years in the Army Reserves in Toledo and Walbridge,Ohio,- 983rd Engr Bn. I was an const equipment Plt Sgt Sfc E-7at the time of my discharge in Dec1990.
