41 years ago today I arrived at Tan Son Nhut AFB with orders to fly as Flt. Mech on C-47s . Unfortunately , all of the Aircraft had not been assigned and I was assigned to the 460th FMS in Aero Repair .At that time , the shops of the 460th and the 377th were combined , and I ended up working on C-123B and UC-123B aircraft more than anything else .While I was there the C-123's were sent to a nearby Depot a few at a time to have the jet engine modification performed which made them K models .When I arrived , barracks were just being built , and after having to move 3 times in a week , I took the option to move off base . Very interesting year that was .
40 years ago today I landed at Norton AFB very early in the morning , 5 of us shared a cab to LAX and rushed to the terminals to get flights . I was then called everything but a human being by the junkies and hippies that seemed to be everywhere in the terminal and was spit at and spit on several times . seems like only yesterday . Welcome home to all who made it .
