Someone is under a misapprehension about Hawk Hill being "over-run" by NVA sappers in Aug 1969. I WAS THERE AND IT NEVER HAPPENED! The night of 11/12 Aug 1969 sappers breached the wire.
C Troop 1/1 Cav was on the perimeter, gave the alert and fought like hell before driving the sappers out. Eight Troopers were KIA. The sappers lost many of their number KIA. First time I saw "bodies hanging in the wire". The Cav had some M-48's and M-114's (ACAV's) O/A mostly to RPG's.An Arty Battery had a few guns O/A, again mostly to RPG's.
