I am looking for anyone that may have known my father, SP/5 Michael W. Smith. He went to Vietnam via the USNS Patrick. He left Oakland,Ca on August 29, 1966. He was in the 563 Medical Clearing Company in Tuy Hoa. He was a medic. He spent time in Phu Hiep andCam Ranh Bay. He extended his tour and was sent to the 228th Assult Support Helicopter Battalion, 1st Cav, A company. He was a medic there as well as a door gunner. He lost many friends, but never gave many names. Two names that were mentioned were PFC David Joe Caballero-KIA April 24, 1968 in the Au Shau Valley and Larry C. Higginson, who was killed in a helicopter accident. They were attempting to repair it and it crashed. He came home in December of 1968. I have his letters home to my Grandmother, they mention very few names, but interesting stories. I would love any information from anyone that was in the same areas at the same time or anyone looking ot share stories. I do have pictures of him from Vietnam if anyone is interested or needs something to help jog their memory. Thanks again!! If you have any info, please contact me at: [email protected]
