May 1968 to May 1969-- I served with the 538th Transportation Co in the 64th Quartermaster Bn."Petro Main" (1st Log. Command), first as a driver, redeployed out of Germany--- then some months later was assigned to operate the parts
dept. in our motorpool maintenance area.
From there we could observe air strikes by F4 Phantoms. We were called "The Valley Boys". Our missions were to deliver mogas, avgas, jetfuel and diesel in III Corps. and to keep Charlie from penetrating our valley perimeter. We were attacked two nights in a row back in Feb. 1969.
We were 15 miles from Saigon.
Our hootch was named "Pack Rat Heaven". Can't recall our platoon number.
Remenber how the ground rumbled at night from B-52 carpet bombings?
Remember how nothing grew in the company and batallion areas?
Remember Capt. Strand And "The Wolf"?
Be well.
