I got to Pleiku and the 299th Combat Engineers 28 April 67 as a medic, wearing the 7th Med Evac patch (the drunken deuce). Assigned to Hq. but went on patrol a lot with Lt. Smith - the strolling white Lt. cool as hell but knew his job, and most important knew how to lead.
