Hello my name is 1SG Sergio L. Ortega I am currently the First Sergeant of the 497th Engineer Company (Horizontal) know to many of you vets out there as the 497th Port Construction Company. The unit that I have the pleasure of leading is currently scheduled to be activated again sometime in OCT 11. We are currently in the Pre-Activation stages. I am looking for anyone who was part of the unit in any period during the time it was active. The 497th has a great history and dates back to WWII and Vietnam just to name a few. I would love to speak to anyone who is still around so that I can gather more information since the Department of Heraldy has limited info on the unit. I feel that it is important that we capture all of the information and teach our younger generation the importance of our military history and those who came before to pay the ultimate sacrifice.
