I was in security in the Air Force Security Police at Bien Thuy Air Base near Can Tho. I was there during the Tet offensive. Unlike many vets, I have fond memories of the period. It is hard to believe it has been 45 years. I did drink to excess and loved visiting the prostitutes and worked the black market small time but enough to always have money to party. During my first three months or so, I lived downtown in a hotel the Air Force had contracted because their was not sufficient housing on base. It was supposed to only be for weeks but I never complained and lived there for months. I was often scared but thought it an adventure. I was young and foolish. Tet was bad with numerous bombardments and small arms fire but except for about six weeks we were not restricted to base. I loved the local food and people. I tried to experience as much as I could given the war status.
