I was attached to HQ 2/33 Arty. 1st Inf. Div. in Lai Khe from 7/66 to 8/67. I was first in the Radar Section then in FDC (Fire Direction Control). I was researching my dads Vietnam paperwork. I was following a lead, I ended up here. Like many of your sons & daughters. We (daughters) tip toe around this war subject because we know it hurts. So, we do not ask. But, we can see the pain clearly... We just want to understand.

I came upon your name while surfing the net and felt that the above statement would have special meaning for you. Regardless of where one served in Vietnam, our duty was hazardous and critical to our overall mission. Courage defines all Vietnam Vets who put their lives on the line during the war. I served with 3/22nd, 25th Infantry Division out of Tay Ninh as an infantryman. Fought the NVA on the slopes of Nui Ba Den twice with numerous firefights in and around the area bordering the Cambodian border. The cover photo on my site looks out the front window of a Huey onto the Black Virgin Mountain. Remember your Christmas in Vietnam? Mine was spent on an ambush patrol near the Cambodian border. After 5 months in the field, I was pulled to the 93rd Evac at Long Binh to work with soldiers suffering from combat fatigue. Hi my name is Ken Delaney. When I first came in country I was sent to company B 4th Engr Bn 4th Infantry Division in the central highlands. There were no opening s in that company for my MOS 62 E 20 dozer operator so I was put in one of the line platoons. Most of the two and a half months in that company were spent on a hill top fire support base (FSB). We were responsible for clearing shrubs, bushes and trees all around the sides of the the hill top. At least half of that time was during the monsoons . The leaches drove me crazy. When the 4th inf div folded I was sent to the 23rd inf div (Americal) in Chu Lie and from there to the 26th Engr com C in Duc Pho in support of the 11th light inf brigade. While there at one point we were shipped by LST to Quang Tri Province near the DMZ . We were there to fill in the void left when our brothers were sent West towards Laos in support of the South Vietnamese Army incursion into Laos. One mission I was sent on was with a D-7 dozer to a FSB right next to the DMZ . We were receiving rocket and mortar attacks daily . One day with my dozer I went into the DMZ . We were accompanied by two M-48 tanks and four to six APC’s . I believe we were searching for the areas were the enemy were setting up to fire mortars and rockets . We did not find any of the enemy or their weapons but they must have left in a big hurry because we found some papers with Vietnamese writing and a few personal items. At one point one of the tanks got wedged in a ravine and I had to set up my dozer to pull him out with my winch . Then the LT asked me to build a dirt berm across the ravine so our tanks and armored personal carriers could cross. If anyone reading this story recognizes it and can fill me in on more details I would greatly appreciate it.

Was with the 628 Maint Support in Pleiku 1967-1968

This June 28,2018 will be the my 50th anniversary serving in Vietnam with 3/27/Mike/Co. 3/5/India/Co. & 2nd CAG III MAF CAP 2-4-4.I served in all three units from 6/28/68 to 7/16/69. USMC...Oorah - Semper Fi.

Arrived in country May 69 assigned to RegComGp Long Lines North in Cam Rahn. Worked at HHC when it became 361st Signal Battalion. Spent time bouncing from Dong Ha to Long Bhin. Kinda vague on the where what when of the year. Left for CONUS April 1970. Hope whoever got the Colt 1911 from the pile in the hooch found it useful. Regards to anyone I ran across and if you are alive to read this, congratulations.

Served in-country Vietnam 66,67 and 68. U.S.N Photographer. I was also the only official enlisted combat photographer/artist serving as such during the entire duration of the war according to the U.S.Naval Insitute. Made many illustrations and took many photos of the Da Nang area and all of I-corps. Was at Khe Sanh, Hue , Phu Bai, Dong Ha and many other towns and villages during the 68 Tet Offensive. Did many "home towners" in the field with the Marines and Navy corpsmen.My work was published in Stars and Stripes but the USN White Elephant News plus many newspapers.

My father was a SSG serving as a platoon commander in C Co 1st battalion 5th Marines in 1967. He was wounded on 9 May 1967 in Operation Union. He was patched up had some Hawaii R&R and was back in the fight. His name was also Robert Marquette. If anyone may have served with him I would love to hear from you. We lost him 3 years ago but he was a Marine to the end. Thank you.
