I am a history major and have been studying a LOT on the Vietnam war lately and am amazed at how underappreciated the vets of Vietnam are. You guys were doing your duty and it is horrible that people downsize your service. Anyway, I have done a ton of research as I have said, but nothing is better then personal stories from those who were there. I am trying to write a book about the timeline of the war; pre, during and after and how your life changed personally, so if there is anyone out there willing to share their very personal stories, I would be GREATLY appreciative! E-mail me at [email protected].
Thank you SO much for your service!

I was never in country but served two tours in Thailand in direct support. 1968-69 Nakon Phanom RTAB, Task Force Alpha and 1972-73 in the same building but it had changed to USSAG. The war was almost over during this tour. I am sorry so many sacrificed so much for such a political reason.

I served with the 1876th Comm. Sq. at Tan Son Nhut AB
from Aug. 1967 until Aug. 1968. I was a "tape cutter" at
7th AF Hq. I worked the swing shift, in "the vault" and was responsible for putting the Arc Light, Tiger Hound/Tally Ho, and Rolling Thunder missions for the next day onto tape so that they could be transmitted to the various fighter groups.

I was an S-2 Scout with 1/1/1, landed 8/28/65, left 6/20/66. Last 1/1 CP was just south -- maybe a half-mile- - from Marble Mtn. I went back first time in 1999 and revisited area, but couldn't find any trace of old CP. Drove south to Hoi An, and remember being taken aback at the very large number and size of cemeteries -- you could almost say that that road is like the entrance to a giant cemetery filled with our body count because sadly, the ARVN dead's graves were bull-dozed by the other side after the NVA invasion and conquest of April 1975, as if they'd never existed.
This is a great site and I'm grateful for your making it. I can provide a pix of 1/1 CP in June '66 if you want.
Semper fi,
Bill
