I was in Vietnam from March 1970 to May 71. I was in MACV Advisory17 during that time. I spent time in Tra Bong. I met Captain Vavrin in Quang Ngai a couple of days before he died. Time has gone by fast and I think of those days often.

I was with 3rd Motor Transport Battalion south of Danang and went as a radioman supporting the landing zone on Harvest Moon. I remember very well the firing of the Ontos in that village. I was thankful to have that available fire-power as I was hugging the bed of my 6by that day! Thanks to you all!!!

Served 1 1/2 tours in Nam, from arriving in Camron Bay, to Quan-Loi. Spent many nights in the field. Assigned to 1st Infantry Div., 121 Signal Battalion. Lost many, many friends. Forty four years later, I still feel the lack respect which was never given to us. I am proud that I served. I am proud of our country, our flag and most of all, to all the troops of today. Stand proud!

I SERVED IN RVN TWICE; FIRST TIME-- TET---PHU LOI--1967-1968::: SECOND TIME ---CAMP EAGLE-KHESAHN-VANDERGRIFT- 1970-1971 ::LAM SON 719 -THE WORST 4 MONTHS OF MY WHOLE ARMY CAREER. I RELIVE IT TODAY AT TIMES. I RETIRED CW3 IN NOV 1979 FROM GERMANY AND I LOVE MY CAREER.
I COME FROM A FAMILY OF 13 AND 10 OF US HAS SERVED AS A BROTHER OR BROTHER - IN-LAW IN THE MILITARY ALL THE WAY FROM WW2 TO THE GULF WAR. FOUR WERE COMBAT WOUNDED. YESTERDAY I LOST MY ELDEST BROTHER( 84) WHO WAS A MARINE DURING KOREAN WAR STATIONED ON A RUNWAY IN JAPAN AS A CRASH AND RESCUE PERSON ON A FIRE TRUCK AS FIGHTER JETS CAME IN TO SHOT UP TO FUEL OR LAND. EXPLODING ON IMPACT. RELOADING FUEL AND AMMO AS NEEDED. HE ONCE TOLD ME SOME TERRIBLE STORIES OF WAR THAT HE WISHED HE COULD FORGET. HE DIED DUE TO PROSTRATE CANCER. AS I RELATE THIS I THINK OF MY OTHER WOUNDED BAND OF BROTHERS FROM THE SAME FAMILY. I WENT THROUGH IT ALSO AND I STILL RELIVE IT TODAY AT TIMES AS THIS. WE WILLINGLY PUT OUR LIVES OUT THERE ON THE LINE FOR THOSE TODAY IN AMERICA. MY QUESTION RUNS THROUGH MY MIND TODAY ,WAS IT WORTH IT? MY SAME ASWER IS YES. MY GOD IS A GREAT GOD AND HE WAS THERE FOR ME THEN AND MY BROTHERS AND HE IS STILL THERE TODAY.GOD BLESS AMERICA THE HOME OF THE FREE BECAUSE OF THE BRAVE. WELL DONE MY FAITH SERVANT WILL BE HEARD THE DAY WE ENTER HEAVEN. MY WIFE HAS TRIED TO GET ME TO WRITE A STORY ABOUT MY LIFE BUT I SAY I WILL LEAVE YOU ENOUGH INFORMATION TO WRITE IT FOR Me.

I was a door gunner with the 176th Assault Helicopter Company in Vietnam in 1968. I have many photos and many stories about my time in Vietnam. I was never injured, never got malaria, did the best I could over there. I was one of the lucky ones. Now at 68 years of age, I find that my time in Vietnam has been one of the most defining experiences of my life. Love your website and all the photos.

Just to let everyone know I have submitted my latest book project to Hellgate Press who will be publishing "VOL 2, U.S. Army Helicopter Names In Vietnam". Should be ready for the VHCMA reunion in June. Features 600 new helicopter names. However, new NAMES can still be added right up until the final edit. Quality in-country nose art photos are welcomed as always. Happy New Year everyone.

I just had a blessing from this web site. I made a posting in 11/4/13 of being in Delta Co, 1st Engrs, !st Infantry and list some of the boys I served with. Since I have heard and shared pics with Douglas Nelson and today I received an email from Hezzie Baines daughter Tammi who station at Ft Hood with her family. Regretfully Hezzie had passed away but God does answer your prayers to give you a piece of your good memories back from so long ago. I forgot the bad long agowhen I turned all over to GOD . All I can say is to keep on reading this site and GOD will answer you many times over. GOD BLESS AMERICA
