I was in D Co 3/12 Inf. 4th ID for 2 1/2 months before going to the Recon platoon in Nov 1967. Served there until deros Aug 23 1968. Have met several whom I served with and talked with a few more over the phone and internet system. You are not alone.
Will answer all that write. Glad that all of you made it and I know of some of the pains we still have to carry in our full ruck sacks. my phone number is 580-658-5039.

Dear members of the Vietnam War and their family members,
My name is Cindy Nguyen and my father is Johnny Nguyen. Both my dad and I have spend years searching for my grandfather. My grandfather served in Phu Loi and Di An during the years of 1966- 1973. He met my grandmother whose name is Tran Thi Lan who worked in the cooking unit of the Phu Loi base. My grandmother had never told me about her relationship with my grandfather and what separated them. However one thing that I know is that my grandfather knows my dad exist. According to my grandmother she lost contact with my grandfather when he went back to America about a year after my dad was born. My dad was born on May 23rd 1967 at Binh Duong. My parents and I came to the United State in 1992 under a program that allow Vietnamese people who have a mix bloodline to come to the United State. We don't know a lot of information about my grandfather except the unit that he served in in Phu Loi and that his last name was Smith. My grandmother told me that he was of medium height, probally in his late 20s- mid 30s when he met my grandmother. He was a supervisor in the cooking unit where my grandmother work. As I mention above my dad has been spending all these years looking for my grandfather with out success because of one reason, we don't have enought information. Please if someone who reads my message know of a way that can help me with my search or know someone with a similiar story please contact me at [email protected]. My father have done a lot for me and I want to help him with this. Since he had been such a good father to me, I want to help him find his father.
Thank You

I was stationed for one month each at Cam Rahn Bay and Phan Rang in 1968. I returned to the States due to a compassionate transfer. I then returned to serve as an advisor on MILPHAP Team 16 in the Sa Dec Province in 1969 and returned to the States in 1970. I have not returned to Vietnam but do have a lot of good memories of my team members and of the Vietnamese people.

I applaude what all of you are doing and I appreciate each and every one of you. I have the utmost respect for all of our veterans, so much so that I joined the Army 19 years ago. I just came home from Afghanistan a couple of months ago and most likely will be going back there or to Iraq in the next year.
Your mission of assisting the people of Vietnam is a lot like what we are doing to help the Afghans. Of course we are still fighting the terrorists at the same time.
I enjoyed reading about your organization, the history and your mission.
