I served in HHB 1st Bn, 5th Arty, 1st Inf Div from Oct 1966-Oct 1967. Phouc Vihn was my basecamp, seems like rockets, and mortars were a weekly affair when in camp. Mostly out driving convoys of 105, 155 & 8in shells.. Remember helping in a big ammo dump fire, but can't remember where that happened. I was trained as an Artillery Surveyor, I think we may have done as many as 3 surveys my whole year there.

I proudly served in Vietnam from May 1968 to May 1969 with the 25th Infantry, 1st Platoon, Charlie Troop, 3/4 Cav.. My wife and I just returned last weekend from South Bend, Indiana where we attended our 40 year Reunion of our 1st Platoon Vets. We even got a 15 minute ride in a restored Vietnam era Huey Medivac Dustoff helicopter. What fun!

I was at LZ Stud on April 1, 1968, when the First Cav choppers were arriving with the troops to assist the marines. I was 14th Cbt Eng Bn HHC Exec Officer there from Wunder Beach to pay some of my water point people. Don't think I have any photos as we were warned that it was a very quiet operation. Then who gets off of the chopper behind me? Reporters and cameramen from CBS.
