I was assigned to the 12th Hospital, Cam Ranh Bay,RVN from 09/1968-09/1969. I was a Medical Technician then, but when my obligation was over, I transferred to an Active Reserve Med Sq. at Offutt, AFB while I finished my undergrad courses. After I was accepted to the University of Nebraska Medical Center in 1973, I received a Health Professions Scholarship with the USAF. After Med School, I completed a Family Practice Residency at Scott AFB, and was then assigned to Luke AFB for 3 years. I had the distinction at Luke of having my hemorrhoids banded by none other than Maj. Paul K. Carlton Jr. who would ultimately become a Lt. Gen. and the Surgeon General of the Air Force from 12/99-12/2002. While there, I completed the Aerospace Medicine Primary Course, and was a Flight Surgeon for a year. Between 1978 and 1982, I became enthralled with Emergency Medicine and moonlighted those 4 years. In 1982, I left Active Duty, transferred to the 161st Air Refueling Wing, Phoenix, ANG, and took a full time position in Emergency Medicine. I was able to grandfather my way into eligibility for the Emergency Medicine Boards. I spent 16 years with the 161st AREFW, earning CFS along the way, and after 4 years as Commander of the Medical Squadron, retired from the ANG in 1997. I practiced Emergency Medicine for 22 years, and am now again practicing Family Medicine (currently for the US Army) Would love to hear from anyone who remembers me along the way. It has been quite a ride, and I am not quite sure where to get off.
