Van Fouts from Des Moines wrote on March 24, 2021 at 10:01 pm
I am Van's sister writing in memory of him. He was A Co 4/31 (Army) stationed at ZZ West 69-70. Van died on 09/11/2007 of bladder cancer. He said he shouldn't have drank the water over there, but he was thirsty and they had been promised fresh water everyday, but never got it. So, the water and never being treated for PTSD cost him his life.... not to mention the wonderful treatment by the VA Hospitals. Example: They took his bladder out on Dec 20, 2006 in Iowa City, Iowa, and called him back a month or two later and told him to come back so they could check his bladder. He told them to look in the container they put it in when they did that 12 hours of surgery. Hope the rest of you are well and haven't had to suffer in your heart the way my brother has all these years since Viet Nam and then had to even prove you were there. For those of you that remember my brother, I hope you remember what a jokster he was and that huge smile and laugh.

Combat veteran of the Vietnam War. Just returned from Vietnam (28 Sept - 14 Oct 07) with Vets With a Mission. It's the best thing that I did.....40 yrs later...to finally put to rest demons and bad memories.

This a great group to re-visit the country with and find both closure and reconsilation.

HI, I spent the last couple of weeks trying to read all of the messages here. I was surprised to see that there were only a couple of people from ECompany, 723rd Mt, Chu Lai in 1970-71. I have quite a few pictures of Chu Lai. The typhoon that hit and brought down our hanger, crushing 13 aircraft. My experiences there were for the most part good. I came there with the mind set that death would be painless and I wouldn't know it anyway. This type of attitude got me through. My heart goes out to those who weren't so lucky. You need to get rid of the ghosts thathang over your shoulders. It wasn't your fault you were there. Those who made it, live a great life and remember the good times.
