I am searching for the wahreabout of Richard A. Roberst (originally from Chicago), born in 1943 (?), who had been serving in Giao Duc District, Dinh Tuong Province (Vietnam), between 1968-1971 as Civilian Advisor to the District Chief. We met again once in Pennsylvania in 1980, but lost contact since as he abruptly changed his address. Your tip on his (and his family's) present status will be much appreciated!

I'm really not sure why, but I am both proud and ashamed of my service in nam. I am very proud to have served in a USMC recon unit (force co. 1st recon batt. 1st mardiv) in danang & phu bai 67/68. I would have gave my life for my country at the time. Now looking back knowing what i know now, I am ashamed of the government that sent its young men, most mere boys to die in a god forsaken rice paddy or hill top for absolutly no real purpose! I love my country and totaly support all of our armed forces, but we need to stop fighting these (polititions wars) like Bushes killing our boys right now!! All just to keep the publics atten. off his inability locate and take out 1 man, ben ladin, shame on you president bush, do you sleep well at night? I don't have'nt since vietnam, GOD BLESS EVERYONE WHO HAS EVER OR EVER WILL SERVE OUR GREAT COUNTRY, GOD BLESS AMERICA, AND SEMPER FI FOREVER!!!!!!!!!!

Thank you to all veterans who have given themselves for the sake of freedom. My father, Brent Fox, III, passed away this week. He was a U.S. Marine who served proudly in Vietnam. I would love to hear from anyone who knew him. I am also looking for any information about a Navy photograper who photgraphed my scared young father in the jungle on March 26, 1966. I've been told the photo was run in the Washington Post as well as recently in Time Magazine. I was given a copy of Tyee with the shot on the cover. Since memories are all I have left I'd like to learn more about my father and the experience that shaped all of our lives. Thank you for any information that you can share. By the way, I do know that he was Charlie 1-5.

I served as a Captain with the 36th Signal Battalion, Long Bien and bases beyond, RVN from Sep 1969 to May 1970. Would like to contact fellow officers and enlisted men I served with--Cpt. Vincent Cipola, Cpt. Bill Davis, Maj. Sam Loeffler, CWO Bob Kashimoto, and other Battalion officers; also enlisted men--Pat (my jeep driver), Sgt. John Rice and any others. Also would like to communicate with other new lieutenants who went through advanced officer training with me at Fort Gordon, GA in late 1968 to eary 1969--will you ever forget that escape and evasion program???

Hello to all. It has taken a long time for me to reach this point, but here I am. I served in Vietnam in 1965-66, with the 1st Admin Company, 1st Infantry Division, at Di An. Having worked for the division IG, I had a good (relatively safe) job in comparison to many of my fellow soldiers. And, I often have guilt feelings because of it, even after all these years. I know many of you men and women had it much rougher than I did, and, no doubt, many of you continue to lead a troublesome life today because of the ill effects from that war. Although I wasn't out in the jungles and rice paddies, I, too, suffer from being exposed to Agent Orange: diabetes, peripheral neuropathy, diabetic retinopathy, depression, and severe panic disorder. Of course, anxiety and depression are not listed as being caused from Agent Orange, but I know in my mind that it had its effect nonetheless. I read recently read that a study was done involving Vietnam veterans in New Zealand, and it was discovered that all who were tested had their DNA altered, and, more than likely, the DNA of their offspring had been altered as well. It makes me wonder what I have done to my two sons and two grandsons. Both my sons suffer from anxiety and depresson, both are pre-diabetic, and my oldest son has leukemia. Can you imagine the guilt feelings I have because of all this? In 2002, I published a book entitled River of Memories: An Appalachian Boyhood. Chapter 13 describes my Vietnam experience. If you wish to read it, you can visit a website called AuthorsDen. Please copy and paste the following address: http://www.authorsden.com/visit/viewshortstory.asp?id=15544. There are other chapters from the book on this site as well. In closing, I would like to say that I pray for the remainder of what years God gives you to be pleasant and painless, both physically and mentally. If you are one who is in close contact with our Creator, then please whisper a prayer for me as well. From the hills of West Virginia, I am,
Sincerely yours,
David Lee Thompson
