My father just passed away and our family isnt close. My dad gave me a letter from vietnam and it had his info in it. Im hoping to see if anyone had served with him and maybe has pictures of him to share with my family. He use to talk to me about Vietnam all the time. I served with the 405th field maintenance squadron in support of the 509th fighter interceptor squadron (F-102a )TDY from Clark AFB PI. to DaNang AB Vietnam. My time TDY was from October thru December 1964 as a jet engine mechanic. We had six aircraft at the south end of the runway run up pad.I flew over the coast from Saigon in a C-130 with the aft door open and remember how beautiful the country looked.During the time I was there we went from bright sunshine to rain rain rain. We had a pet pig which we fed with can milk and cereal from the mess hall.Downtown DaNang memories include hot french bread with small hot peppers and dejon mustard.Beir 33 Larue.and pedicab rides vs 6by trucks.War was war but the people I met were nice.thanks to Uncle Sam I met Aussies,New Zealanders,US Marines and US Army serving at or nearby.Monkey and Marble mountains lit up at night by a Redish glow.Hueys flying in formation and Vietnamese Airforce A1es doing loops before landing at the end of the runway remain vivid in my mind. Our 102s flying low and slow over the F-100 area and dumping toilet paper from open speed brakes over friends formerly stationed at Clark but now TDY from Lousiana. Long hours working in mostly terrible conditions but never as bad as what was to come later in the war. Thanks to God I came home safe.My salute to those who served and sacrificed their lives.in a questionable war.Quite an eye full for a nineteen year old, proud to have served my country.

I am looking for anyone that may have served along side my uncle. His name was Solomon S. Youmans from Georgia. I do not have much information to go off of since he never spoke of it. My aunt found me a newspaper clipping that was dated 1966 or 1967 that said he was attacted to 199th Light nfantry Brigade in Vietnam. I believe that it says he was a Specialist 5 and he was a teletype repairman. THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR YOUR TIME!
