I am reading the book Matterhorn. I have found this site to be informational. I was not even born when this war took place, but my dad was drafted for Vietnam when he was 18. My heart goes out to the men and women who served so diligently during the Vietnam war. In 2003, I had the opportunity to take my Dad to the Vietnam Wall in Washington D.C. It was a moment I will never forget.

Looking for anyone who served with me in VietNam; Arrived New Years Eve 1966 with the 2nd Battalion, 39th Infantry, I was a motarman, I got wounded, then contacted malaria and had to be hospitalized for awhile also had a surgery then worked in the mail room. I am not real good at remembering names, but I do have a few; Sgt Saltzgiver, Cpt. Unlaub, Frank Gurley and a medic by the name of Mull. I am not sure that these names are totally correct but I hope they are close. Please contact me if you are a part of the 2/39.

I worked in the camp for 3 months, 1-1969 to 3-1969 as a cook. I spent the rest of the year at the Navy fuel farm. It was on the Marine side. We fueled the jets from the carriers, both hot fuels and cold.
I believe the south end was where the South China Sea was. Traveling the road around the base, you had the mortuary at the south end. Horrible smell. Unforgettable.
