I have been in search of anyone that was in can tho, Vietnam from May 68 to May 69. I am wanting to prove that I was there because I need some help with vet benefits for PTSD. I am looking for Silas Spaulding. We shared some hard times in can tho and would like to get in touch with someone from the 51st Maintenance co. It was a hard road that we shared. My wife is sharing the load with me now while I have my bad days.

I never had boots on ground. I was in the USN as an Operations Specialist stationed in the Tokin Gulf for Linebacker 2 operation on board a carrier with 24/7 flight ops for the tail of 71 and a few months of 72. We did occasional transporting of some of you guys. My heart went out to you then as it does now. Good luck in life.

May 1968 to May 1969-- I served with the 538th Transportation Co in the 64th Quartermaster Bn."Petro Main" (1st Log. Command), first as a driver, redeployed out of Germany--- then some months later was assigned to operate the parts
dept. in our motorpool maintenance area.
From there we could observe air strikes by F4 Phantoms. We were called "The Valley Boys". Our missions were to deliver mogas, avgas, jetfuel and diesel in III Corps. and to keep Charlie from penetrating our valley perimeter. We were attacked two nights in a row back in Feb. 1969.
We were 15 miles from Saigon.
Our hootch was named "Pack Rat Heaven". Can't recall our platoon number.
Remenber how the ground rumbled at night from B-52 carpet bombings?
Remember how nothing grew in the company and batallion areas?
Remember Capt. Strand And "The Wolf"?
Be well.

This is the best site I have ever used, I am a dis. ab. vet. I serverd in Da Nang from 1/31/68 to 2/21/69. from that date we went through 47 mortor and (122) rockets attacts during that yr now the VA wont me too recall the names of people that was KIA during that time. I remerber when the amo dump took a direct hit ther was explosions that went on for a week.So if there is any one out there that has any infomation please e-mail me at [email protected]. I was with the 366 Supply Sq. Gunfighters. What a joke when our M-16s were kept at head qts on the other side of the flight line . When I was there I ran a liq. oxygen plant (LOX) .During that year in July and August we was the only plant in operation we never had a shut down. for mech. problems. There was only 4 plants operating in country,Siagon, Cam Ron Bay, Tan Synut, and Da Nang. There was times we had help load agent orange on C 130's that flew out of Da Nang.
