I served in Vietnam in the 577th Engineering Battalion at Don Duong and Duc Trong for a while between May1969 and late April 1970. I was a draftsman, surveyor, and inspector of lots of road projects. I arrived at Don Duong as the base camp was being developed. We started construction projects and built our bunkers at night for months. I recall serious racial conflicts at this camp. Lots of memories.

I read with interest your segment on Operation Union in the Que Son valley which started April 21, 1967. I know, because I was the company commander of Mike Company, the first unit of 3/1 to be helicoptered in to assist Fox Company of 2/1. The written account is fiction and that is the nicest thing I can say about it. For verification please read the Road of 10,000 Pains by Otto Lerack, the only true account that I know of or reach Gene Deegan was the CO of Fox. (Bill - Obviously VWAM is not the author of the article. Our webmaster will look into this, and we appreciate your lead on another article to review)...Chuck Ward, Executive Director

This message is for anyone who was a member of the 563rd. trans company during 1967-68 located in Pleiku, Vietnam
My name is Tommy Hill and I was a member of the 563rd. Trans Co. during my tour of duty from July 1967 to July 1968. I don’t Know If you remember me or not; consequently I was wounded as a result of a land LED on March 11, 1968 while in convoy from Kontum coming back to our home base in Pleiku. Do you remember the name of our company commander or any information in order that I can contact him. When I was transported to the 71th evac. Hospital after I was wounded; consequently, our Company Commander was already at the hospital and snapped some pictures of me while I was in the operating room. I would like to make contact with him concerning receiving a copy of the pictures. Any Information would be helpful.
PS> If you have any pictures to shard with me, I would appreciate it.
Thanks,
Tommy Hill
