I was in Viet Nam from February 1968 through March 1969, with C/1/5 1st Marine Division. Then I was the CAP Commander with CAP 142 and 146 through October 1969. With the CAP Units I had the opportunity to live with the locals and discovered a different view then I had with the Grunts. I saw how hard they worked each day just to survive and I saw them as people.

Welcome Home
Sgt. Jack W. Hutson
I am a Vietnam Vet, in country 1965/1966. was first assigned to III Corp Com Center, 39th Sig. Batt. Later transferred to Xuan Loc to replace Sgt. Valentine at the Adv. Tm 87 Com Cen. I remember Sgt Banks getting killed, I remember Charley Taylor a radio operator, I remember a Lt. Carrol as my CO (later met him in Davis Calif, and he had been promoted to Capt.) I got my head busted by being thrown off of a deuce and a half going up Chua Chan mountain carrying bags of cement.
From time to time something else will pop in my head and make me remember things. When I remember a small thing it makes me feel good.
I developed Larnyx Cancer from Agent Orange and developed PTSD and Diabetes II. But, Hell I'm still here, If anyone reads this and remembers me or any of the things I brought up I would like to hear from you.
Thanks.

I am looking for anyone who served with the Special Forces recon teams operating out of Khe Sahn in 1967. I was a USAF FAC (Covey 017)detached to Khe Sahn that year and worked with Army teams on Prairie Fire missions. I remember one team I rescued which was in a hopeless situation, completely surrounded by an NVA force in a deep valley west of Khe Sahn in Laos. The weather had completely blanketed the entire top of the valley with a thick cloud cover that extended from the tops of the vally ridges to about 1500 feet from the valley floor. When I established radio contact with the team, they said they needed air support and possible extraction. I punched through the cloud cover to see if I could break out below the cloud deck before hitting the valley floor. I broke out at about 1,500 feet in rain and scud and managed to find the team. I had no air support as the weather was dangerously bad within the walls of the valley, so I used my marking rockets to hit enemy positions. I was getting intense automatic weapons fire. After supressing the fire, I managed to talk down helicopter support to swuccessfully rescue the team. Does anyone remember this event?

I am looking for anyone who might have known my father, Andrew Sooley, who served in the US Army motor pool in Cholon, Saigon during the Tet Offensive. He was a Sergeant at the time. I do not know the exact unit he was attached to but I was hoping at least someone out there might recall any of the time they served with my late father. Thank you.

I was an oprating room tech at 1st med after my bush tour. Do you have a need for volunteers to go to Viet nam in assisting you? I was fortunate went on Advance Infantry when the 4th left Ft. Lewis. It was on a prop jet. Took forever to make it to Nam. There were I beleive 10 of us on this plane. We were taken to the 25th Div. outside Pleiku. Next move I beleive the following day to the Dragon Mountain. We called it Titty Mountain ( looked like one). The 1st Cav gave us suppot. We were all alone. For along while I share a shelter half with a sargent Coleman. When the rest of the brigade arrived things got a little better. We ate C Rations for God I don't know how long. Trying to out side with monsoon, the ration turned into soup. My first patrol was with Lt. Enari it was his first also. Great man. On patrol I was the machine gunnist. Wow tooting the M60 so heavy. Lots more to chat about but don't want to bore all. Never regretted serving my country. Support our troops. Oh by the way when there was the 10 of on the mountain saw for the first time Mountainards. Women no tops and men only loin cloths. Was very confused LOL.
